A few posts ago, we talked about a smartphone app for the iOS and Android mobile platforms that was aimed at giving smartphone users the power to report illegal dumping sites whenever they find them. As we stated in the post, the app is very successful in other parts of the world, and looks as if it may have the same luck here in the United States.

But it got us wondering – what other smartphone apps are out there that does its part to make the world a more greener and cleaner place? We did a little research as to which apps are trying to make our world a better place, and listed our favorites below. Check them out!

Think of it as a cheat sheet for which fruits and vegetables you want to consume, and which ones you want to avoid.

Next up is TheGoodGuide, an iOS app that allows users to scan items inside of a store via the app itself as a way to identify whether or not the product is socially responsible. In short, it allows you to discover if the product you are going to buy is eco-friendly, as is the company that produces it. Thus, you can take solace in knowing every item you purchase from now on is eco-friendly thanks to this app.

One of the most unique apps on this list is Carticipate, an iOS app that allows you to find other individuals in your area that want to carpool. Thus, this app allows you to meet with other likeminded individuals who want to make a difference in the environment by carpooling together. Inside the app, you will have the luxury of exchanging info with other users, giving you all the opportunity to schedule a carpool at your leisure.

GreenYou is an app that allows Android users to track their carbon footprint, all the while being provided with suggestions they can use to lower their carbon footprint as much as possible. Even if you believe you have a very miniscule carbon footprint in your everyday life, you owe it to yourself to trying out GreenYou, as you will likely be surprised to find that you have a bigger impact than you initially thought.
